Jakarta –
Currently, cases of COVID-19 have increased again in Indonesia. One of the causes is the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus, Mother.
Omicron is said to be more infectious than the previous variant. Launching from the page covid19.go.idthe symptoms of the Omicron variant are said to be non-specific, but are thought to be milder than the Delta variant.
Anyone can be exposed to the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus, including children. For this reason, mothers need to be vigilant if their children start to experience symptoms of COVID-19 or have direct contact with people who are positive for COVID-19.
Pediatrician, dr. Arifianto, Sp.A(K) or familiarly called Dr Apin reminded parents not to panic when a child is confirmed positive or in contact with a positive one. Parents must understand the child’s condition, including the symptoms they are experiencing.

“There are children at home who are confirmed positive for SARSCOV2 or children live in the same house with other people who are positive for COVID-19? Don’t panic! Understand what conditions need to be taken to the doctor or stay self-isolated at home. Emergency rooms and hospitals are prepared for those who really need to be treated. really need it,” wrote Dr. Apin, quoted from Instagram @dokterarin, Monday (14/2/22).
To confirm the condition of the baby, you need to do a swab test or PCR. If a child with a positive PCR result only has mild symptoms, you can monitor his condition at home, but keep an eye on emergency signs that may appear.
So, here are 8 emergency conditions for children that need to be immediately taken to the hospital during the pandemic, according to the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI):
- Shortness of breath or blue on the lips
- Persistent diarrhea or vomiting accompanied by weakness (dehydration)
- Severe stomach pain
- Continuous bleeding
- Seizures or loss of consciousness or paralysis
- High fever for 3 days or more or fever in neonate
- Accident
- Poisoning, swallowing foreign objects, being bitten by venomous animals.
If your little one gets one of the 8 signs above, take him to the hospital immediately. Meanwhile, if your child has mild symptoms, you don’t need to rush him to the hospital. But, still have to monitor the condition.
