The word hell in the Qur’an is called naar, which means blazing fire. In terms, hell means a place of retribution in the form of torment for people who have committed sins or mistakes while living on earth, Mother.
“Hell is a place of torture with the most severe form of punishment and is illustrated as a fire,” said Roidah Bakri in the book Hell: Description of Hell according to the Quran and Hadith.
Meanwhile, according to Prof. Dr. Umar Sulaiman al-Ashqar in the book Heaven and hellhell is eternal, will not disappear or be destroyed, as explained by ath-Thahawi in al-Aqidah ath Thahawiyyah.
“Heaven and hell have been created, they will neither perish nor perish.”
Hell dwellers
The inhabitants of hell are described in several verses in the Qur’an, Mother. The eternal inhabitants of Hell there, who never leave it and neither die, are disbelievers and polytheists.
Here are some words of Allah SWT about the inhabitants of hell:
“And those who deny Our Verse and are proud of it, they are the inhabitants of Hell; they will abide in it forever.” (Surat al-A’raf: 36)
“Indeed, the sinner will be eternally in the torment of the Hellfire.” (Surah Az Zukhruf: 74)
“And the disbelievers for them the Hellfire. They will not be destroyed until they die and their punishment will not be lightened.” (Surah Fathir: 36)
“As for those who disbelieve and deny Our verses, they are the inhabitants of Hell; they will abide in it forever.” (Surat al-Baqarah: 39)
“Verily those who disbelieve and they die in a state of disbelief, they have the curse of Allah, the angels and all mankind. They will abide in that curse forever; neither will their torment be lightened nor will they be given respite.” (Surat al-Baqarah: 161-162)
Hell Names
Launching from various sources, here are 7 names of hell that you can introduce to your children:
1. Hellfire
The Hell of Hell is the highest level of hell, Mother. The inhabitants of this place are people who commit grave sins.
Hell is mentioned in the Qur’an. The following is the word of Allah SWT which explains about Hell:
“Say (Muhammad), The Hellfire is hotter.” (Surat At-Taubah: 81)
“Indeed, whoever comes to his Lord in a state of sin, then indeed for him is the Hell of Hell.” (Surat Taha: 74)
“And verily, Hell is indeed the (place” that has been promised to all of them (followers of Satan).” (Surah Al-Hijr: 43)
Ulfa Qamariyah in the book Hell and its Inhabitants explained, there are several groups of inhabitants of Hell, namely:
- Infidel and hypocrite
- Opposing and rejecting the Prophet
- Disobedience, namely those who always do evil
- Kufr to His favors and associating partners with Him
- Followers of Satan (those who always follow the will of their lusts)
- Opposing and rejecting the truth in the teachings of the Apostles and following the path of the misguided people
- Piling up sins, while until death he has not repented
- Those who save gold and silver, but do not want to spend in the way of Allah.

2. Hell of Jahim
H. Ahmad Zacky El-Syafa in a book entitled Turns out we don’t deserve to go to heaven said that Jahim literally means a very hot place. Allah SWT says in Surah Al Hajj verse 51 which reads:
“But those who try to contradict Our verses with the intention of weakening (the will to believe), they are the inhabitants of the Hellfire.”
According to the Qur’an, those who enter this hell are those who deny the verses of Allah, those who are extravagant with what is obtained and do not spend in the way of Allah, as well as those who challenge the Prophet and the disobedient group.
3. Hawiyah Hell
Hawiyah means falling from a high place to the lowest place. Prospective residents are people who like to reduce the scales. Allah SWT says:
And as for those whose scales are light, their place of return is the Hawiyah Hell. Do you know what Hawiyah hell is? It is a blazing fire that destroys those who enter it.” (Al-Qariyah: 8-11)
4. Hell Wail
Hell Wail is filled with people who like to play with falsehood and like to deny the teachings of Islam, Mother.
Allah SWT says about the inhabitants of this hell in Surah Al Maun verses 1-7 which means:
“Do you know (people) who deny religion? So that is the one who rebukes the orphan, and does not encourage feeding the poor. So woe to those who pray, (ie) those who are lax in their prayers, who bear fruit and are reluctant ( provide) assistance.”
5. Saqar Hell
In the Qur’an it is explained that the country of Saqar has a very burning heat. Here are some words of Allah SWT about the Saqar Hell:
“In the future, I will put him in (hell) Saqar.” (Surah Al Mudassir: 26)
“What caused you to enter (hell) Saqar? They replied, ‘In the past we were not among those who performed the prayers’.” (Surah Al Mudassir: 42-43)
People who are candidates for the Saqar Hell are people who don’t want to give alms to the poor and talk about vanity things, Mother.
6. Hell Ladha
Ladha Hell is a hell with a fire whose heat can peel off the scalp. Allah SWT says in the letter Al Ma’arij verses 15-16 which means:
“Absolutely not! Truly hell is a raging fire that sloughs off the scalp.”
Prospective residents of Hell Ladha are people who turn away from the religion of Allah SWT and people who like to accumulate wealth and are reluctant to give charity.
7. Hell Sa’ir
The word Sa’ir has the meaning of burning and something that is blazing. Hell Sa’ir is for people who like to eat the treasure of orphans, Mother. Allah SWT says in the letter An Nisa verse 10 which means:
“Indeed, those who eat the property of orphans unjustly, actually they swallow fire with their whole stomach and they will enter a blazing fire (hell).”
In addition to those who eat the property of orphans, the prospective inhabitants of this hell are disbelievers and do not believe in His Messenger.
