Mother, this is the comorbidity that most patients suffer from COVID-19 death

Mother, in Indonesia, it turns out that the majority Cases of death in COVID-19 patients are experienced by comorbid people. The most common type of comorbid disease is diabetes mellitus.

This was conveyed by the spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Prof. Wiku Adisasmito at a press conference, Tuesday (15/2/2022).

“In fact, nationally, based on data accessed from online hospitals on February 13, 2022, it was noted that the majority of deaths were contributed by comorbid diabetes mellitus,” he explained.

For example, one of the artists who recently died, Dorce Gamalama, during his lifetime, Dorce was known to have a long history of diabetes. Last year he was even rushed to the hospital because he lost consciousness due to blood sugar levels that were too low (hypoglycemia).

People with diabetes are more prone to hypoglycemia because the drugs and insulin used are in excess of the dose. Insulin plays a role in controlling glucose, lowering blood sugar levels when they are too high.

Diabetes is one of the comorbidities that can worsen the symptoms of COVID-19 infection. The COVID-19 Task Force said that most of the COVID-19 patients who died in Indonesia were people with hypertension and/or diabetes.

Citing data from a research in India, Prof. Wiku said that more than 90 percent of COVID-19 patients had more than 2 comorbidities. Patients with fewer types of comorbidities, the risk of death is also less.
