Appear from Google Play Store
The Check Point Research team managed to find several applications that contain dangerous malware, which is said to have emerged from the Google Play Store.
According to the research team, the new malware is called Cluster82 and is hidden in nine applications that can remotely take over the victim’s phone.
They also explained that the malware could attack anything from cellphone programs to VPN networks at any time. This malware is able to evade the Google Play Protect security detection system.
Then, the application will inject alienbot malware-US–a–service (Maas) which contains malicious code into the victim’s device. And that’s where the perpetrator takes control of the device remotely and accesses the financial app on the victim’s Android.
“After taking control, the perpetrator can control certain functions, they physically hold the device such as installing an application on the device. Then the perpetrators will act and target the victim’s bank account,” explained the research team.
They also recommend that if you download one of these 9 apps, you should delete it from your phone immediately. In addition, users are also advised to change the password associated with a financial account if they have ever installed one.
